Funk-music band promoter gets new gigs

Funk-music band promoter Allyson Stevens

Two months after our first interview with funk-music band-promoter Allyson Stevens, we check in with her and find her as excited about her business as ever. Last year, Stevens quit her job at a vet clinic in order to focus on the music business full time through her now two-year-old company, The Good Foot.
“I’ve put on many, many shows since then,” she says, as she talks about her recent experience taking a band on the road. In March, she took Cherry Royale, a funk-music band, on a seven-city tour in Colorado and Wyoming, with a grueling schedule that would scare less-passionate promoters.
But that’s not all. Next, she takes over as lead-talent buyer for The Five Spot, a live-music venue in Atlanta’s Little Five Points. The job, she explains, involves booking and managing three nightly shows, seven days a week, and keeping a booking calendar three months in advance to make sure that every night three different bands hit the stage at The Five Spot.
